Although many people purchase
domain names to set up a web site, more and more Internet
users are purchasing domain names for only their email
accounts. Knowing how to purchase a domain name and
finding a web host is vital information for those wishing
to set up an email account.
Purchasing a Domain Name
Companies that sell domain names, must be registered
with iCann (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names
and Numbers.) Register your domain name under your own
name. If you let the host register for you, it could
be difficult to keep your domain name if later you want
to change hosts.
When you register your domain name, make sure the domain
name registrar sends out a notice when your domain name
is about to expire. You would be very disappointed if
your email account suddenly disappears.
Find out from your future web host the Primary Name
Server and Secondary Name Server. You will be asked
to list these when you go to register your domain name.
If you haven't yet chosen a web host, then you can park
your domain name with your domain name registrar until
you have found a host.
